Cooking Classes

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

I’m pleased to announce that I’ll be again providing a limited number of private and semi-private cooking classes, in part to help with research for an upcoming book. I also have courses for groups of six. Anyone can learn to cook, at any age. Just ask Angus, my latest student who is 89-years-old! I think that cooking is best when it involves multiple individuals in a household, and that includes kids and grandparents. To sign up for notices on cooking classes, including last-minute options, send me an email. In some cases, I’ll discount the costs if you’re a particularly good fit for upcoming project, such as a book.

Private Cooking Classes
I prefer to teach classes in people’s homes as I feel that’s where you cook, and that’s where you can best learn. I offer hands-on lessons of three hours for up to three people within 15 miles of Seattle or, depending on the time of the year, Anna Maria Island, Florida. Not in Seattle? Contact us to see if our Airbnb two-bedroom apartment with a fabulous kitchen is available to rent for a Stay-and-Cook experience. I will provide you with a shopping list and a checklist to assure you have all the necessary stuff on hand. Usually that’s a knife, some vegetables and a couple of pieces of protein such as fish, chicken or beef.

In-home private lesson cost: $289 (one person), $89 additional students (up to four people)
In my kitchen private lesson: $249 (one person), $89 per person (up to four people)

Kick-start to Cooking
This includes a package of two classes and personalized strategies to help you overcome the biggest barriers to cooking, how to set up weekly meal plans and more. I’ll work with you to come up with a plan to incorporate shopping, cooking and healthy eating into your everyday life. This package includes at least one follow-up phone call and emails, plus discounts to ongoing culinary experiences.

In-home “kick start” package: $599 (one person), $749 (up to three people)

Group Cooking Classes
From time to time, I offer group cooking classes in my home on Capitol Hill. The cost for these courses is $109 per person, although I will also allow someone to work as a volunteer for a session to earn free admittance to a future class. The cost includes a four-hour cooking lesson that typically results in a four- to five-course meal. Classes are limited to eight guests, depending on where they are taught. To learn about upcoming classes, send an email for the first chance to sign up.

Private Group Cooking Experiences
Come bring a group and cook with me in my kitchen. Over 4 ½ hours, we’ll create a five-course meal based on your interest and my expertise. A French bistro dinner? A healthy Northwest-Asian fusion lunch? We’ll work on the menu together and I’ll put together matching wines. After the class, we’ll sit down to a beautiful table to share the meal together. Prices below are for my location; ask for off-site costs or for larger groups.

Lesson plus dinner: $849 (for up to six)
Lesson plus dinner: $999 (seven or eight)
