I’ve been wanting to teach a class like this for a long time. Why? I’m a trained actress and comedian, so standing up in front of a crowd is not only easy for me, it’s the highlight of any day. But we do not live in a world where one can sit in a dark room, craft a book and call it day, at least not anymore. Although writers tend to be bookish types, at some point you’ll need to discuss or read your work in front of an audience, or be interviewed on TV or radio. In this session, I’ll share exercise to learn (and practice!) how to speak into a mic, conduct a public reading, read an audience, and use comedy techniques such as callbacks and other tips to win over a crowd, plus strategies to help with stage fright. The class will run four hours, from 1 p.m.t o 5 p.m., Saturday, August 20th. Cost is $85 for Hugo House, $95 for non-members.
